Some years later, doctors came across Dengue, they had read only in text books.
Just like Malaria, Plague staged a come back. Doctors had to read books to find its treatment.
SMON was highly technical entity, which failed to bother either a common doctor or a common man. It was imported from Japan to politically wipe out a miraculous diarroea drug in favour some costly ones with convenienly ignored stomach irritation and other side effects.
A look at faces of Delhi Chief Minister and Finance Minister (Aajtak 08 March 2005) refleted they had been encountered with some new entity - never known to delhites before. I hope they have finally decided how to spell the word they came across first time during their life time - B R I B E .
During their school days they never paid money to manipulate practical examination marks.
During college, they never paid money to make up attendance.
They never paid money to grab admissions or political posts.
(Before they were ministers) They never paid money to receive mail (post).
They never paid money to receive plot possession, for layout sanction, for water/electricity/telephone connection.
They never paid money to the income tax inspector or the peon outside.
They never paid money within court room to get a favourable date.
They never paid money to taffic police to park they vehicles outside their premises.
They don't know any friend, relative or citizen who ever paid money for above jobs.
Now, they know 82 sales tax persons, first ones in Delhi to accept bribes. They shall identify those 82 and punish them. We have to vote them twice more to power so that 83rd person may be detected during coming decade. 82 persons caught receiving a bribe is an isolated event that never assumed endemic or epidemic proportions - An indication of devotion and dedication of Delhi Government.
Without any postgraduate qualification, seniormost biochemists in India coopted me into their fold. My book Biochemical Techniques can be downloaded free. I developed and presently, I manufacture a stable Indole-3-acetic acid reagent - not made anywhere else on earth surface.
Being a medico, my contribution to Applied Electronics is perceptible in wholesale markets. During 1989, I became the first in India to develop and manufacture 1-ml Photoelectric Colorimeters.

I was editor-publisher of the Clinical Reporter and on Advisory Editorial Board of Journal of General Medicine for some time.
Before all that, when I was degree science student at D.A.V. College, Jalandhar, I invented Reverse Bubble Potometer (patent number 102743 - now open to public use) published in several Plant Physiology books. I delivered talks at Dept of Plant Physiology, Delhi University and at several colleges in Delhi around 1966 - I would be keen to resume - topics Astrology, Internet, Medicine. All invitations to literary, cultural, social functions shall be gladly accepted. I have been a judge at debates, declamation contests and baby shows during remote past.
Just on finishing internship during 1971, I established my nursing home. Soon, I came across patients with intermittent fever with shivering - simulating malaria. I had suffered a number of times as school student. I talked to Dr Vijay Arora, the lone postgraduate doctor in town (later joined as Chest Specialist at Bokaro Steel City Hospital). He just laughed at my suggestion,"Oh doctor, just come out of the dream world. Malaria has been non-existent in India for at least 10 years". With no antimalarials available in market, I used quinine dihydrochloride from a pack discarded long ago by an old chemist. A few weeks later appeared headline in newspapers "Malaria Strikes Back!". For three decades, I have been coming across endemic fever, given dengue, viral, and more names. Most of my patients responded to a single dose of Chloroquin (nonspurious) - some rare exceptions responded to an ayurvedic injection, Vishmant (Pratap Pharma, Dehradun).
Since 1984, I have been shouting that incidence of spurious medicines with Delhi chemists is not 10%, not 30%, not 50%, not 70% - I can't comment beyond that but many chemists don't have single genuine tablet in their shops. I find it hard to get genuine medicines for myself and my family. What would be the fate of unsuspecting patients? At Fatehabad, I asked my patients to purchase medicines only from Tuteja Medical Hall - At Paschim Vihar, I asked every patient to purchase medicines only from Kapil Medicos. As a dim memory, I recall having received 980+ tablets of Zandu Vegetable Pills, "loose pack with 10-20 tablets already sold", in place of inteded 1000 tablet pack of Lariago I had paid for. At the top of it, the chemist requested me me to return empty jar "as soon as feasible" against Rs20. Soon my fever patients were returning with loose motions. I know how to detect many spurious medicines on the spot :-
1. Smell (Belladonna plaster, Baygon);
2. Taste (Avil tablets);
3. Density - some injectables can be aspirated with thick
needles only. Some syrups pour slowly out of bottle (Durabolin);
4. Physical features - Some saturated injectables crystalise
on exposure. The needle, wall of the broken ampoule and floor surface prominently
display crystals (Baralgan, Analgin).
5. Absence of known instantaneous relief;
6. Absence of side effects observed before by the same
patient - sedation, sweating, stomach irritaion;
7. Break the tablet and see how it looks like;
8. Absence of discoloration of urine/faeces (Furoxone,
Becosules, Vanquin).
But who cares! After 18 years, there appears to be some government awareness of spurious medicines. B. Shankaranand should be a happy man to find his legacy of Spurious Medicines - Spurious Institutions - Spurious Organisations (NBE) - Spurious Posts/Interviews (Assistant Director, P&I, ICMR - post created for Dr N Medappa with about 40 candidates called for Spurious Written Test/Interview under the panel headed by Spurious/Uncultured/Ill-mannered creature Dr B. Sathyavathi perhaps planted by B. Shankaranand the same way) - multiplying beyond infinity.
For a change, I admire every minister involved in scams.
They performed and led the country to progress and in the process, made
fortunes for themselves. A huge country won't get poorer if a few hundred
people siphon away any amount of money. A performer corrupt is more of
an asset to the nation than nonperformer. During mid fifties, I was a school
student and people used to offer tips (sach of wheat) to patwari, bribe
tehsildar and others. I fail to believe that corruption had no roots at
top. Common masses felt the ministers were planted from heavens and were
only to be worshipped. They never dreamed of corruption at top level. The
turning point was Chaudhry Charan Singh - man from masses - becoming prime
minister. A thousand people had been his school mates - many more with
him at college and still many more, in his company in political internship.
This prime minister was not planted from heavens and was "just one of us"
- prone to public comments, criticism and questioning.
Around 1979, I saw an advertisement for
the post of Assistant Director (P&I), ICMR. I rushed to get the application
form. "The post has been CREATED by health minister only for Dr N Medappa
- Why do you want to waste your time?", was the suggestion accompanying
application form. I applied at least just to get some experience. My attempts
to announce the incumbant in newspapers much before actual selection, failed.
Dr B. Satyavathi : Do you think MBBS is sufficient qualification
for the post?
I : I was selected for the interview and I am here because
I was considered sufficiently qualified. This is editorial post and my
writing career has been enviable.
Dr B Satyavathi (laughing) : Hey! Look, what he thinks
of himself!
The lady had obviously been planted herself the Medappa
way. She failed to realise she was there to judge my merits and not to
comments on my views about myself. No one knows where that creature is
today. I checked up on internet and rang up ICMR to confirm her initials
as "B" or "SV" - she is just not remembered by any one even at ICMR. On
the contrary, just type my name, any of my family members, my phone number,
or even my colony in any search engine and the engine would list thousands
of websites with my details.
A few months later, I applied for the post of
Senior Research Officer (ICMR), Streptococcal Disease Laboratory, Lady
Hardinge Medical College - the post had been advertised just to confirm
a full time pregnant lady already working there. However, I have no regrets
since the great Dr HB Maheshwari, head of interview panel made remarks
no candidate would dream off. "Dr Chaudhry, I feel you are on wrong side
of the table. I give you an opportunity to cross over and conduct the interview."
Being a freelance researcher, I worked on creativity
of the Honourable Union Health Minister. I learnt, with the time he had
planted his cadre at Health Ministry, ICMR, AIIMS, hospitals, CGHS - there
was still some overflow - he CREATED an organisation National Board of
Examinations to accomodate the redundants. After (deservingly) siphoning
away fortunes both as Health Minister and Petroleum Minister, he did not
fight an election because of some problem with "reserved" status of his
constituency,.
I still hold that he performed and siphoned away well
deserved wealth for himself.
If that does not amount to contempt, I feel the people who named New Yorks, New Delhi, New South Wales, New Zealand, New Rohtak Road lacked foresight and were just unfit for high public posts. The names imply expectations to perish before the entities "ceased to be new".
Busy updating over a crore (10 million) internet pages - online 15 hours a day, I expect some recognition as an Internet Journalist. A review of this website in any newspaper/magazine could be the first step in that direction.
Finally a note on fevers. A patient of epidemic fever - under any name in the country requires just two tablets of Chloroquin-DS stat and any antibiotic/analgesic combination for three days - of course all nonspurious. All other opinions are from spurious researchers working in spurious organisations, planted by corrupt politicians.
